Helcim: Taking Your Business to the Next Level

Outgrowing your office is a great problem to have. It means your business is growing, and so is your team of hardworking employees. That’s the situation Helcim found themselves in. They were getting too big for their space and needed a way to accommodate more of their talented people. Usually, the solution would be to rework the existing office or find a new one entirely. For Helcim, it was a little bit of both when they acquired an additional floor in the building they were already in. This made it possible to start from scratch with a new space, while saving their team from relocating completely.

Helcim is a Calgary-based company that’s dedicated to helping small businesses thrive. They do this by offering payment processing services that are transparent and cost-effective, while providing payment support to the businesses they work with. As a company with a similar goal of supporting a wide range of organizations, we were excited to help Helcim create an office that supports them in accomplishing their mission.

A Space Plan for Success

There are some perks to working with a blank canvas, but sometimes, it can be overwhelming to figure out where to start. That’s why we offer space planning services to our customers at no extra cost*. We believe that the layout of your furniture matters just as much as the furniture itself, which is why we're here to guide you through this step.

On this new floor, Helcim wanted an open-concept space with cubicles, some private offices, and boardrooms that altogether could accommodate 68 people. After taking a look at their space, we noticed there were a few pillars to plan around and full walls of windows that we had to consider during the space planning stage of the process.

With a better understanding of the new space and Helcim’s goals for it, we turned to our in-house CAD designer to draw up potential office layouts that would maximize flow, while making the most out of the available square footage. We presented these layouts to Helcim in the form of 2D and 3D renderings to help them visualize the space. Once the layout was approved, it was time to pick products that worked within the newly designed plans.

Creating Workstations with HON and Performance

Cubicles were our first priority when we started the furnishing process. We wanted a panel system that was modern, functional, and versatile, so we turned to HON. HON’s Accelerate collection of panels are great way to add privacy to an office in a way that’s adaptable. With the trajectory of growth Helcim is on, we knew that Accelerate could be reconfigured time and time again to suit the company’s changing needs.

Inside each workstation, we used Enhance Height-Adjustable Desks by Performance Furnishings to bring ergonomics to the office. Height-adjustable desks play a big role in making sure employees are comfortable all day long, giving them the option to sit or stand throughout their workday. We also used CoolMesh Executive Pro Plus Chairs at each station, providing employees with even more ergonomic support when they're seated.

Collaboration Meets Style in the Boardroom

Keeping the boardroom bright and airy, we used the Signature Square-Edge Boardroom Table in white. The Signature collection is known for its mid-century inspired angled legs that give any space an open look that’ll be stylish for years to come. For comfort and support during meetings, we used Nova Mid Back Chairs. In keeping with the Signature collection’s timeless mid-century style, the Nova chair series pair perfectly by giving the space a sleek yet classic look.

One of our favourite kinds of projects is when we can help a business transition through growth and change.
